National intellegence at risk

I am reponding to a querry about the reason for this blog. It is simple. Our world is either a big machine which consumes us or a big apple which we consume. I believe that it is our birthright to be in control of our own destiny. I am wondering how much the American educational system really empowers citizens to be so. I am seeking those who would participate or at least discuss a critical anaysis of the fundemental procedures and functions of "schools" today. The internet is a very big and potentially powefull took. It is all about the power of communication and understanding. Are schools, (including the state and national insitutions that fund them) really making an effor to get on and stay on a research driven "right track"?
